Saving money and cutting energy consumption is something that is an issue that many are facing. One way to solve that problem is through solar powered lighting.
Selux, based in Highland, New York has introduced SONNE?EUR??,,????<???-a new solar outdoor lighting fixture. After several years of research and development, the fixture represents a sun-powered outdoor lighting fixture that meets technical and aesthetic design challenges.
?EUR??,,????'??We realized that now, more than ever, there is an urgent need to develop solar powered lighting fixtures that meet sophisticated design, architectural and engineering requirements,?EUR??,,????'?? said Veit Mueller, President of Selux USA. ?EUR??,,????'??It is the ideal solution when there is a need for architectural lighting in off-grid locations.?EUR??,,????'??
The principle of how solar power works is simple: a solar panel converts light to electricity. During daylight the generator charges long-life batteries which store the energy until it is needed. In addition to large capacity batteries and solar panels, it also incorporates sophisticated charge regulators. The Smart Controller stops the flow of solar generated electricity when the batteries are fully charged, and then resume charging when more power is needed.
Solar power is generated from sunlight energy not temperature. Even in the shortest days of winter it has a sufficient performance rate.
The system is sized and customized, according to lighting requirements and sun energy available in the various geographical areas. The calculations take into account the lowest amount of sunlight energy available during the year for the various areas. This, coupled with the amount of the light needed, allows the company?EUR??,,????'???s engineers to accurately size the system, and optimize panel size and storage battery requirements for each particular installation.
Mueller said this includes parks and wilderness areas worldwide, as well as beaches, bicycle and jogging paths, and highway rest stops. Any location far away from a secure power grid is a potential host to lighting powered by the sun?EUR??,,????'???s energy. It is a light resource that can be available anywhere in the United States and most other countries, most any time of the year.
New technology, along with a new design, makes today?EUR??,,????'???s solar fixtures different, and desirable. Solar powered outdoor lighting according to Mueller is virtually maintenance free, with no cables, no trenching, no metering, no wiring, and no electric bills. It can be installed cost effectively and easily relocated in Technology: (continued from page 22) many locations. The fixture comes with photovoltaic components which are thoroughly tested, warranteed, and UL Listed. It can be designed and installed to meet applicable IES and DOT standards.
Another interesting point Mueller brought up was it is never too cloudy to collect solar energy, even if it is raining. Enough energy can be stored to operate for as long as five consecutive days without sun.
The fixture offers complete unit installation, maintenance-free material for luminaire panel and battery controller enclosure, variable mounting, compact fluorescent lamping up to 42 W; Smart Controller, environmentally-friendly sealed gel batteries, galvanized steel and recycled ABS materials.
The Smart Controller monitors and regulates charging and discharging of batteries, preventing over charging. It is programmable to control hours of operation in relation to dusk and dawn. The Controller also has a 99 percent five-year success rate, according to the manufacturers, and is made for the end user so it is simple and rugged in design.
The batteries are sealed gel batteries representing the most modern design and manufacturing techniques. They are one or two units, 12 volt, various Amp Hour, maintenance free, non-spillable, and mounted to a hinged battery tray for ease of access.
