With a $100,000 pledge, The Pattie Group is designing and installing a one million dollar public garden at Cleveland Botanical Garden?EUR??,,????'???s location in University Circle. This is a collaboration effort between CBG and the northeast Ohio?EUR??,,????'???s commercial green industry. The new space serves as the entrance garden to CBG?EUR??,,????'???s Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse.

?EUR??,,????'??The public garden will be an extension of Cleveland Botanical Garden?EUR??,,????'???s mission to sensitize people to the importance of plants in their lives,?EUR??,,????'?? noted Brian Holley, CBG director. ?EUR??,,????'??It will be a great place to enjoy a quiet moment in the midst of beautifully landscaped gardens, have lunch, or experience exhibits and live performances. The Pattie Group has done an extremely thoughtful job of selecting the plantings and designing the space so that it showcases the exceptional work of architect Graham Gund, who designed the plans for CBG?EUR??,,????'???s renovation and expansion,?EUR??,,????'?? Mr. Holley added.

The two-acre public garden is the first of several public spaces contemplated in the master plan for University Circle. It is designed to improve public accessibility, encourage pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and provide a catalytic impact to foster a rebirth of housing and retail development in the area. Located near the main entrance to CBG at the intersection of East Boulevard and Wade Oval Drive, the space will feature mature plantings indigenous to the region, pedestrian walkways and thoroughfares, a water feature, and a plaza suitable for public gatherings and events. Plants were selected with a special emphasis on year-round aesthetics and regional hardiness.

?EUR??,,????'??Our goal is to produce one of the most significant urban public space projects in northeast Ohio since John Rockefeller Jr. donated Forest Hills Park for community use in 1938,?EUR??,,????'?? explained Steve Pattie, CEO of The Pattie Group.

The company conceived the project to add value to the community by maximizing the special synergies between Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Wade Oval, and Cleveland Botanical Garden. It is the first tangible evidence of a recent effort in University Circle to revitalize Wade Oval and develop connections between its neighboring institutions. With more than 1.5 million people visiting the institutions near Wade Oval each year, the public garden project aims to welcome visitors and nearby residents to Wade Oval and facilitate cross-access amongst the area?EUR??,,????'???s cultural neighbors. The design of the public garden also hopes to contribute to the safety, stability and vitality of the University Circle community.

?EUR??,,????'??Overwhelmingly, people who live in urban districts regard access to public space as among the most important factors to their well-being and vitality of their neighborhoods,?EUR??,,????'?? Mr. Pattie added.
