LASN Expands Reach . . . Interactivity

By George Schmok

Welcome . . . I say welcome today because LASN has just added 18,500 new professionals to its monthly distribution. That's right . . . Thanks to digital technology LASN's monthly distribution is now more than 50,000!

While many of the new readers are familiar with LASN, this September issue is the first time they have been sent the iPad-friendly digital issue with special invitations and links. Some of you reading this may have been forwarded the issue. If you click here you can sign up to receive the magazine as well.

Not everyone qualifies though. LASN is definitely not meant for your aunt Susie or uncle Todd to help them with their gardening. No . . . LASN is purely a professional journal meant to entertain and educate Registered Landscape Architects (RLA) and commercial landscape specification professionals.

In fact, LASN is the only publication mailed to virtually all 21,000 RLAs in the nation. In addition, the print version is sent to about 10,000 other city and land planners, park and recreation professionals, lighting designers, architects, engineers and developers. The digital version is now sent to other ASLA members, associates, architects, erosion control/stormwater management professionals, APA members, NRPA members, APLD members and other professionals who can benefit from the content, but do not meet the stringent qualifications needed to receive the print version.

We could have added up to 65,000 professionals to the list, since LASN's parent company, Landscape Communications, has one of the most extensive email databanks of landscape professionals on the planet, but LASN is not a magazine aimed at golf course superintendents or landscape management professionals. LASN's little brother, Landscape Contractor / design build maintain supply - LC/dbms, is a better fit for those folks. So don't expect to start seeing articles about turf grass management or pesticide applications in LASN.

What you will start to see are more links and clickable buttons that seem out of place on the printed version (for one example, see the firm profiles starting on page 68). Sorry, but rest assured, when they figure out how to click a printed page and get to a website, LASN will be at the front of that technology. Unfortunately, that's not quite available yet . . .

Anyways . . . We hope you enjoy your September issue, whether you are holding it in your hands or viewing it on your tablet. Either way, be sure to take a look at page 54 and read about the new ASLA Class of Fellows. These people are at the pinnacle of the profession and absolutely deserve the recognition they are receiving here, at the ASLA Annual Meeting and in the years ahead.

If you would like to receive LASN, either in the print or digital version, let us know by using the card found on page 227, following the link above, or by visiting landscapearchitect.com . . .

A lot of new things are in the works, so keep your eyes on LASN. Thanks for your readership and . . .

God Bless . . .
