The city of Anderson, Calif. received word recently that two of its more recent public works projects are nominated for 2011 Project of the Year awards in separate categories, City Manager Dana Shigley said. Consultant Russ Wenham of Omni-Means nominated the city’s Safe Routes to School project along portions of Bruce Street and Emily Drive for the association’s Parks and Trails category in the Construction Division for small projects costing less than $500,000. Jim Gilmore of United Building Contractors Inc. was the general contractor on the project. In the Construction Division’s Structures category, the flag-embossed wall that is the focal point for a planned Veterans memorial park and “Walk of Honor” also won in the small projects category with a value less than $500,000. Jeff Kiser nominated the project. The Sacramento Chapter’s awards program recognizes projects that demonstrate excellence in management, administration, design, construction and community relations. Further, the award honors the alliance formed by a project’s managing agency and the consultant, engineers and contractors who work together to complete the project, explained Richard T. Liptak, the award’s committee chair. |
