As we approach the turn of the century, there seems to be an air of change . . . anticipation maybe, as if we all know something new is just ahead or possibly in our midst already. Are we making history today? Was yesterday?EUR??,,????'???s news tomorrow?EUR??,,????'???s history, or is it what?EUR??,,????'???s happening today or maybe tomorrow, that people will reflect on over the next 100 years?!? The answer of course is yes! Every minute, every day, you hold the potential to make history. Do you think Olmsted thought he was making history when he coined the phrase ?EUR??,,????'??Landscape Architect?EUR??,,????'??? Judging from his writings and his scope of work, I think the possibility is great. You see, Olmsted was a history maker. He took chances because he truly believed in the power of landscape to benefit mankind. He not only harbored that belief, he shared it, and as such he fostered its growth. And grow it has, into a profession of enormous significance. But where Olmsted saw the benefit of landscape to the mental and physical well being of mankind, another Landscape Architect, Raymond Page, saw the significance to the publics health and safety in the assumption of liability that accompanies registration. Finally, a profession that links the profit-driven developer with the quality-of-life-driven population. The professional true vanguard of the citizen, a business oriented teammate of the developer, and of course, an eternal steward of the land. So, who will make history today? Will it be the ASLA, or maybe the new IRLA? Or maybe it will be LASN, or even better . . . YOU! Do you wake up every morning and think to yourself, ?EUR??,,????'??Today I will make history!?EUR??,,????'??? Well you can! You can start by letting the public know your status as a registered landscape architect. Today is the day when only the initials ?EUR??,,????'??RLA?EUR??,,????'?? signify your profession as a true representative of the public. This is one set of initials you cannot buy from a society. Regardless of what else you put on your business card (i.e. Land Planner, Site Design, Irrigation, ASLA, etc.), now is the time to wear your hard earned badge with honor. If you are an RLA, say it. Today is the day for an RLA to make history!
