How . . . . . . A phrase you might expect from someone like the gentleman who graces the cover of this month?EUR??,,????'???s Landscape Architect and Specifier News, However, Chief Xikri (who, along with Cort Paul, is the only other person to ever appear on our cover) exemplifies the “Steward of the Land” approach to land planning. His tribe, the Kayapo Indians, has spent centuries manipulating land use to preserve nature and stimulate growth. As you will read, they have been successful in introducing specific plant materials to enhance soil conditions and lure unwanted elements away from populated areas. We first learned of this tribe while researching the deforestation articles appearing last month. The Friends of the Earth, in D.C., directed us to an organization called the Rain Forest Alliance, whose principal proponent, Alexander DeMoura King, was more than happy to tell us his story. You can read more about these land planners on page 30. You may notice a few changes in this month’s issue. These are due to the addition of Tim Chauran, the new Editor of LASN. Tim replaces Marty Smith who has gone back to Seattle to start a new magazine in the local snow ski market. With so many landscape architects presumably coming from the state of Missouri, I won’t spent time telling you of our improvements; instead I will be content to show you. If you like what you see, write us a letter. If you don’t like what you see, give us a call! Calling all Landscape Architects!!! The December 1989 issue of LASN will be the first annual Yearbook. If you have any pictures of events taking place in 1989 please send them to us with a brief description. Also, if you have won an award for your work please send in a slide of the project and a short explanation, We will print as many as we have room for so send in those slides and photos. The Landscape Architectural Technical Exposition (The L.A.T.E. Show ‘89) is really taking shape. Check out the information card toward the back of the magazine to find out about this exciting event. See you there. ?EUR??,,????'??+God Bless George Schmok, Publisher
