Gingrich to Headline NSSGA Annual Convention

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is set to keynote the concluding general session at the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association?EUR??,,????'???s 2004 annual convention, themed ?EUR??,,????'??Managing Your Resources in Today?EUR??,,????'???s Economy,?EUR??,,????'?? on Jan. 25 in Phoenix.

Gingrich is CEO of the Gingrich Group, a communications and consulting firm that specializes in ?EUR??,,????'??transformational change,?EUR??,,????'?? with offices in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. He serves as a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, the Honorary chairman of the NanoBusiness Alliance, and as an advisory board member for the museum of the Rockies. Gingrich is also a news and political analyst for the Fox News Channel.

His experiences as the son of a career soldier convinced him at an early age to dedicate his life to his country and to the protection of freedom. Realizing the importance of understanding the past in order to protect the future, he immersed himself in the study of history, receiving his bachelor?EUR??,,????'???s degree from Emory University and master?EUR??,,????'???s and doctorate in modern european history from Tulane University. Before his election to Congress, he taught history and environmental studies at West Georgia College for eight years.

The convention is scheduled to run from Jan. 21-25 at the J. W. Marriott Desert Ridge hotel and convention center.

Concrete Paver Sales Continue to Grow

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Total U.S. and Canadian estimated sales of concrete pavers in 2002 were 565 million square feet, which was an increase of approximately 85 million square feet from 2001.

?EUR??,,????'??The industry?EUR??,,????'???s continued double digit growth shows the market strength for segmental concrete pavements in North America,?EUR??,,????'?? said Bruce Camper, chairman of the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute.

Average sales per manufacturer in the United States were 5.33 million square feet in 2002, a 12.7 percent hike compared to the 4.73 million square feet reported by companies in 2001.

Seminar on Sustainability

RESTON, VA – The Brick Association of the Carolinas recently sponsored a seminar on sustainability. More than 60 architects, engineers and others interested in sustainability attended. Presenters included Denis Bronsan of the National Brick Research Center, who presented the life-cycle advantage of brick over other materals.

Cheryl Walker, AIA, of Gantt-Huberman Architects, spoke about how architects are becoming more aware of sustainable issues, and how governmental bodies are requiring suppliers to provide documentation of how their products impact the environment.
