World of Asphalt 2004 on Target

More than 3,500 people are expected to attend the World of Asphalt Show.


SILVER SPRING, Md. – The World of Asphalt 2004 Show and Conference is on target for a successful show when it is held March 15-18 at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn.

In addition to exhibits of the latest asphalt product technology and services, the event will feature three industry-specific conferences–a warm mix asphalt paving demonstration, a quarry open house, and an educational session on aggregates for asphalt.

In March, this show is expected to draw more than 3,500 small and large contractors from the paving, surfacing, maintenance, rehabilitation, recycling and earthmoving sectors as well as private and public sector project designers and equipment specifiers.

Acme Brick Helps Provide Home for Injured Athlete

DALLAS – Acme Brick’s John Brandes, a former NFL player was moved to action when he heard about the troubles of a Texas high school athlete.

Corey Fulbright was a high school football player playing in the 1993 state championship, who was paralyzed from the neck down during the game.

Through the leadership of Brandes, the Dallas/Ft. Worth home building community pitched in to build and donate a new brick home for the Fulbright family that fully accommodates Fulbright’s physical limitations. More than 70 companies from the area were involved in the project that was completed this spring.



NSSGA Names Capstone and Pantheon Award Winners

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association recently announced its Capstone and Pantheon awards winners for 2003.

Milton Quarry and REOStone, LLC received top honors in the ’03 Capstone Awards program for market development. Milton Quarry received a Gold Capstone for its project to win government approval of its Dufferin Aggregates HPB??????oe for drainage applications in construction, and REOStone won the gold for successful introduction of its Washed Screenings for concrete slabs in homebuilding.

The ’03 Pantheon Awards for innovative or exceptional use of aggregates went to Great Lakes Division, Lafarge North America-Construction Materials, for aesthetic use; North Central Region, Aggregate Industries, Inc., for landscape use; and Clinton Point Quarry for structural use.

“I’m continually impressed by the innovation and creativity in marketing and uses of materials that NSSGA members demonstrate day in and day out,” said NSSGA chairman of the board John Cramer. “This year’s Capstone and Pantheon awards more than reach the high standard of excellence that NSSGA members routinely achieve.”
