DENVER – Robinson Brick Company recently announced the promotion of Bob Jaster to chief executive officer.
Jaster joined Robinson Brick Company in 1995 as director of manufacturing. He was named president and chief operating officer in December 2000. Jaster holds a BA in political science from Metropolitan State College, and has more than 20 years of management experience.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) has named Terry Tyson of Hanson Building Materials America, Inc., in San Diego, Calif., the ?EUR??,,????'??2003 James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year.?EUR??,,????'?? The coveted award will be presented at the association?EUR??,,????'???s Environmental, Safety and Health Forum in Phoenix, Ariz., in September.
The safety award was created in 1987 to provide national recognition to an individual in the aggregates industry for superior and substantial contributions.
Tyson is the regional director of safety for Hanson Aggregates, Pacific Southwest Region, which employs approximately 700 workers at 29 quarry and plant operations. With 19 years in the mining, plant operations and transportation safety fields, Tyson is recognized as an outstanding safety and health expert within Hanson America and within the aggregates and mining industries. He is actively involved in the NSSGA?EUR??,,????'???s Noise and Dust Monitoring workshops, hosting two events at Hanson operations in 2002 and 2003.
?EUR??,,????'??Terry?EUR??,,????'???s generous safety assistance to other mining companies truly makes him worthy of this honor,?EUR??,,????'?? said Diane Fionda, safety director of TXI Riverside Cement, in a letter recommending Terry for the honor.
?EUR??,,????'??His dedication to worker health and safety extends to the entire industry,?EUR??,,????'?? said Joy Wilson, president and CEO of NSSGA.
Cost: Stone, brick and pavers are the most costly (flagstone is the high end: $20 a square foot; asphalt is the low end: $10 a square foot).
Installation: asphalt: one to two days; concrete: about one week; interlocking pavers: about two days for a 1,000-square-ft. driveway; stone, brick: about two weeks for 1,000 square feet of flagstone; 10 days for brick.
Longevity: asphalt:15-20 years; concrete:25-30 years; interlocking pavers: 20-25 years; stone/brick: 20-100 years.
Advantages: asphalt: flexible surface; concrete: strength, impermeability increase with time; interlocking pavers: flexible, stronger than poured concrete and replaceable; stone/brick: variety of colors.
Disadvantages: asphalt: needs sealer after one year and flexibility decreases over time; concrete: de-icing salts deteriorate surface; limited flexibility; interlocking pavers: pavers can shift over time for uneven surface; stone/brick: If base is skipped, driveway susceptible to damage.
