1st Annual Hardscape North America (HNA) Awards

The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, Brick Industry Association and National Concrete Masonry Association have announced the inaugural HNA Hardscape Project Award winners. The new awards recognize outstanding hardscape projects in commercial/industrial and residential sectors.

LPS Pavement Co. of Oswego, Ill. was honored for this 87,000 sq. ft. plaza at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago. The clay brick pavers are in four colors, with parallelogram-shaped precast concrete slabs. The specified squared-edged clay pavers were replaced with beveled-edged ones to prevent chipping. The pavers were set using a bituminous setting bed application over a concrete underlayment.

In this first year of the awards, 85 entries were received, with 21 awards presented on Feb. 29, 2008 at the Nashville Convention Center during the Hardscape North America trade show. The commercial/industrial categories were clay brick, concrete pavers, segmental retaining walls and a combination of all hardscape products in project sizes of 1,000 to 10,000 sq. ft., 10,000 to 50,000 sq. ft., and more than 50,000 sq. ft.

Site Technologies of Roswell, Ga., received three commercial awards. Brick and cast stone masonry with tumbled brick pavers and architectural concrete paving at Winter Garden Village in Orlando allowed the landscape architects to design with versatility and cost effectiveness.
