Nemetschek Vectorworks, a provider of intuitive, powerful and practical CAD and Building Information Modeling software solutions, announced an expansion by hiring regional account managers to serve as the company's local representation. The new employees, Patrick Schmitt (Chicago) and David Dengler (Los Angeles), assumed their roles in March. Prior to joining the team, Schmitt developed new markets for a start-up company, and consulted with engineering, construction and design/build firms. Dengler was previously a designer with Adler Display, the national leader in trade show displays, custom display environments, signage and graphics.
Mahan Rykiel Associates, a Baltimore-based landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm, announced that Mayra Filippone, Isaac Hametz, Joe McGinley, Travis D'Onofrio and Jennifer Saunier have joined their staff. Filippone, PLA, LEED AP, has worked in the Baltimore area for the past eight years, and brings a wide range of project experience including transportation, master planning, urban design, mixed-use, higher education, and Department of Defense. Hametz holds a master's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Virginia, school of architecture and an undergraduate degree in agriculture from the University of Maryland. As a graduate student Isaac was awarded the Landscape Architecture Department's Benjamin C. Howland Travel Fellowship. McGinley, landscape designer, joined the firm with a master's in landscape architecture from Morgan State University and four years in the field. He brings a rich diversity of experiences, having acquired a bachelor's in geology from Virginia Tech, a mastery of GIS and spatial analysis tools, and six years of environmental restoration and remediation prior to transitioning to landscape architecture. D'Onofrio is a 2013 graduate from Penn State University with a degree in landscape architecture where he was awarded for Outstanding Leadership and Service and for Exceptional Growth in Landscape Architecture. His interest in urban design and natural processes generate his passion for stormwater management and using reclaimed materials to restore underperforming landscapes. Saunier specialized in landscape and graphic design at The Neighborhood Design Center in Columbus, Ohio, embracing underserved neighborhoods and advocating for design as a right, not a privilege. Her work on the Columbus Art Walks received the National Association of County and City Health Officials Model Practice Award, 2012.
Landscape architecture and planning firm, TBG Partners, recently announced the additions of senior associate Tim Salka and associate Josh Metzger to its Houston office. Salka joined the firm after spending more than 11 years working for an internationally recognized landscape architecture firm's Fort Lauderdale office, ascending from an entry level position to Vice President in 2007. During this time, he was directly involved in the planning, design, management and implementation of complex projects. Metzger moved to the Houston office after working for eight years throughout Florida and the past year working on projects in Austin. From 2004 to 2012, he was based in the Florida cities of Celebration, Orlando and Sarasota, working on a variety of domestic and international projects during this time.
Irrigation Foundation has named Cathie Lavis, PhD, of Kansas State University, the recipient of the 2013 Excellence in Education Award. Established in 2012, the Excellence in Education Award honors an educator who teaches irrigation, water management and/or water conservation in affiliation with a university or community college. Lavis has been a long-time supporter of educating the irrigation industry's future work force and has worked with the Irrigation Association since the late 1990s to develop standardized course materials for use at the collegiate level.
Firma Design Group announced that Steve Kovanis, landscape designer, has been certified as a Bay Friendly Qualified Professional in both the design and maintenance of landscapes. He is a Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo graduate with a bachelor in landscape architecture. His decade of experience in the landscape industry, including all facets, provides our clients with an extraordinary depth of knowledge. Kovanis presents clients with sustainable, maintainable and water efficient landscape designs.
Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has recently hired Stephen Borghi, LLA, as senior landscape architect in the firm's Parsippany, New Jersey, office. In his new role, Borghi will be responsible for land planning, which involves the full cycle of concept development.
