Cawrse has extensive experience with city planning commissions, state and local transportation departments and other public agencies. The firm has designed mixed-use, commercial and industrial developments, single and multifamily housing projects, and conservation sites and parks. Cawrse has one principal and two partners, all registered landscape architects, along with a landscape planner and support staff. B'nai Jeshurun Synagogue Linden Ceremonial Courtyard Renovation, Pepper Pike, Ohio The Linden Ceremonial Courtyard renovation for the B'nai Jeshurun Synagogue includes a 16,100 square foot plaza and a bima, or outdoor space for religious services, special events, concerts and other gatherings. The bima features a movable ark, pulpit and Torah reading table. Cawrse designed the courtyard plaza and bima, as well as a 5,400 square foot garden and a "River Jordan" water feature. The garden is a place for spiritual contemplation, and the "River Jordan" is a sculptured fountain stationed at the entrance to the synagogue. Cawrse and Associates Office, Chagrin Falls, Ohio In 2007, Cawrse designed a new office building that incorporated environment-friendly features. Sensitivity to the existing natural features of the site was important. Because of the attention Cawrse paid to the environment, Chagrin River Watershed Partners awarded a grant to the project. The grant designates the project as an Innovative Stormwater Management System. Cawrse designed the new office so it includes a permeable paver parking lot, rain garden, bio-swale, and bio-retention basin. These all work together to capture and filter storm water runoff from the building's roof and parking lot. Many students, environmental professionals and municipal officials who are interested in learning about the system and implementing the same design features have visited the site. The complex has been documented by the USGS as a case study for permeable paver systems. Euclid Corridor Streetscape, Cleveland, Ohio The Euclid Corridor Streetscape Revitalization is a $200 million project headed by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA). It was designed to revitalize Euclid Avenue and provide a more efficient multi-mode route to access health care and cultural institutions on the east side of the city. Work was done to a section of the Euclid Corridor that passes through the Cleveland Clinic Foundation campus. The corridor includes stainless steel light poles and bollards, increased landscape features, tree planting trenches and bicycle lanes. Cleveland Clinic OCPM Parking Lot, Cleveland, Ohio The scope of this project was to transform an existing building site into a new parking lot. It corporates bio-swales between the parking bays for storm water retention. The bio-swales were planted with a mix of low growing sedges to provide a uniform look, and to filter a majority of the parking lot's storm water runoff. TriPoint Medical Center Wellness Walk, Concord Township, Ohio This scenic trail meanders through a wooded valley that surrounds the TriPoint Medical Center. The pathway is designed to improve health and wellness for patients, staff and the public. The trail has fitness equipment that anyone can use for rehabilitation, exercise and play. There are also seating areas for people who like meditation and relaxation. The trail was designed with low-impact design principles. The existing topography was followed to minimize site impacts. Other features include two boardwalks that traverse a natural stream, and a musical play area and trailhead dedicated to donors. Mary and Al Schneider Healing Garden, University Hospital's Seidman Cancer Center, Cleveland, Ohio The Mary and Al Schneider Healing Garden engages a person's mind, body and spirit, which accelerates a patient's healing process. A large labyrinth made of different colored pavement is central to the garden's overall theme. It is surrounded by a walkway containing interpretative sculptures, paintings and water features. The walkway also has seating areas, more sculptures and planting beds. The water feature is a low pool with small fountain jets backed by bright orange sculptured wall panels. The water feature is flush with the pavement so wheelchair users can stop right next to the water and enjoy the sights and sounds. Colorful lighting throughout the garden creates a brilliant display at night. Rolling Meadows Subdivision, Hiram, Ohio Rolling Meadows is an open space conservation project situated on 75 acres of rolling hills in rural Hiram Township. The land planning objectives included incorporating existing farmland, protecting steep slopes, streams and wetlands, and saving as much of the woodlands as possible by clustering the lots to create larger tracts of open space. This project won a Smart Growth Community Excellence Award in 2002.
