FLD&E Awarded Ballard Park

Florida Land Design & Engineering, Inc. has been retained by the City of Melbourne to design Ballard Park, a 9.8 acre park and boat launch facility on the Indian River. FLD&E is a multidiscipline firm of planners, engineers and landscape architects with offices in Orlando and Tampa.

H. Kellogg Scholarship

Pacific Sod of Camarillo, California, has donated $5000 to the Women’s Auxiliary of the California Landscape Contractors Association for a perpetual landscape scholarship in the name of Hiram “Hi” Kellogg. John Culbertson, Pacific Sod’s marketing director, presented the check to the Women’s Auxiliary at the recent CLCA Summer Tri-Board meeting in Anaheim, California.

Kellogg, who died at age 59 last March, was the owner of Kellogg Supply in Carson, California, a long-time manufacturer and supplier of organic fertilizers and soil conditioners.



CECA Announces Awards

The 1987 winners of the California Landscape Contractors Association’s prestigious Landscape Beautification Awards, Long Beach-Orange County Chapter, were announced recently at the 29th annual Awards Banquet held at the Sheraton Newport Beach. Guest speaker for the event was Assemblyman Dennis Brown of the 58th district. Judges for the awardswere Harold F. Greek, Inspection Landscape Coordinator for the city of Irvine; Mickey Strauss, President of the American Landscape Inc., and Guy Okayama, General Superintendent of Landscape for the Shapell Industries Inc. A new, heavy-duty Kubota roto-tiller wasdonated as the door prize for the event by Bert and Honey Kenyon, owners of Active Kubota of Anaheim.

The 4 special awards and the 52 category awards were selected from communities all over the Long Beach and Orange County areas.



Lighting Seminars Offered

Nightscaping, the originator of the 12-volt lighting system concept,is planning to offer Low-Voltage Lighting Seminars with President William J. Locklin from November,1987 through March, 1988.

A number of seminars are being planned nationwide.

ASIC Convention Schedule

The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) has finalized the schedule of events for its Fourth Annual National Convention. The Northern California Chapter is hosting this year’s event which will be held on October 15-18, 1987 at the Concord Hilton Hotel in Concord, California.

Thursday, October 15, will provide attendees an opportunity to pick up their registration packets during the afternoon. Participants are urged to arrive early to enjoy the optional ASIC Golf Tournament?EUR??,,????'??+a day of fun at the beautiful Franklin Canyon Golf Course.

The ASIC National Board of Directors will meet on Friday morning, October 16. That morning will also feature the opening of the table-top displays of the Associate Members in a special section of the Conference Hall. The exhibitors will be hosting a Deli Lunch in that area prior to the opening of the afternoon conference sessions. The display section of the Conference Hall will be utilized for refreshment breaks throughout the Conference.

The Friday afternoon Conference Session will feature the following topics and speakers:

“The New Tax Law & How It Relates to Your Business”: Roger Emanuel, Concord, CA.

“Errors & Omission Insurance”: Carolyn Isseks, Dealey-Renton & Associates, Walnut Creek.

“Business Management & Supervision”: Bob Eddy, Bob Eddy & Associates, Berkeley, CA.

Friday evening will feature a fabulous cocktail and dinner cruise on San Francisco Bay aboard a beautiful Hornblower Chartered Yacht. Participants will enjoy a full course dinner, e open bar and entertainment during the cruise. Round trip bus transportation will be included from the Concord Hilton Hotel.

Activities begin on Saturday, October 17, with a continental breakfast served in the exhibitor area of the Conference Hall. The educational program for the day will feature:

“State of the Art Filtration Techniques”: Jerome Gutman, AMID USA, Reseda, CA.

“Maintenance As It Relates to Irrigation”: Dan Sheehy, Environmental Care, Novato, CA.

“Water Management”: Dick Bennett, East Bay Municipal Utilities District, Alamo, CA.

“Computers & High Tech Design Applications for Irrigation”: Chuck Huston and Paul Hunter, Hunter Industries, San Marcos, CA.

Saturday evening will feature the gala Awards Banquet, preceded by an hour-long reception. The Awards Program will be presented after the full course banquet, followed by an evening of entertainment and dancing to the music of Derrick Walter’s Total Entertainment.

Sunday, October 18, will provide an opportunity for an optional post convention guided tour of the Napa Valley wine country. Those who wish to take advantage of their proximity will have a day of wine tasting as they visit selected wineries. The bus tour is narrated and fully escorted.
