ALCA Division Conferences

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America announced today preliminary plans for the divisional conferences this summer and next fall.

The ALCA Exterior Landscape Contracting Division Conference will be held in conjunction with the Farwest Show August 27-30 at the Red Lion Inn in Portland, Oregon.

The ALCA Interior Plantscape Division Conference is slated for October 24-29 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. A trade show is also scheduled.

The ALCA Landscape Management Division Conference will also be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel November 7-11. The conference will be held in conjunction with the Professional Grounds Maintenance Society (PGMS) Trade Show.

More details about the conferences will be released as the information becomes available.



Texas ASLA 1987 Awards Presented



One Honor Award and seven Merit Awards in Landscape Design and Analysis and Landscape Architectural communications and four Chapter Service Awards were presented by the Texas Chapter of the ASLA at its Annual Meeting in April.

The Distinguished Service award was presented to Kent Besley, a partner in the firm of Schrickel & Rollins. The Community Service Award was presented to Walter G. Dahlbert, president of Myrick-Newman-Dahlberg & Partners, Inc.

Two Environmental Stewardship Awards were presented. The first went to Council Member Elenor Tinsley for her work with the SPARKS program. The second was presented to the National Wildflower Research Center for its research work in the use of native plants in the landscape.

In Design Awards an Honor Award went to Myrick-Newman-Dahlberg & Partners for their design work on the Highland Methodist Church in Dallas. The same firm won a Merit Award for their design work on the LTV Center in Dallas. SWA/Dallas won a Merit Award for its design on Dallas Alley. Other firms receiving Merit Awards were: Smith, Locke, Asakura, Inc. for its design at the Johnson residence in Houston.

Two Merit Awards were given for landscape planning and analysis. Dannenbaum Engineering Corp. of Dallas won for its planning services for Vista Ridge, a land development in Lewisville, Texas, being developed by Lomas and Nettleton. The second Merit Award in this category went to Lewis T. May/ CRSS, Inc. for the Jeddah Corniche Master Plan in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Martha J. Latta received an award for her communications on the Xeriscape Program in the capital city. A book, “Maintaining the Spirit of Peace,” written by Harry Garnham, of the University of Texas, also won a communications Merit Award.

There were 52 entries from Texas ASLA members and firms. Entries were judged by a panel of landscape architects and allied professionals in early April.
