Landscape Design Tax Nixed in Ohio Budget

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The House Finance Committee recently approved Ohio?EUR??,,????'???s biennial budget bill, HB 95. Part of the budget included the acceptance of an omnibus amendment that removed the exterior design tax, also known as the landscape design tax.

The Legislative Budget Office had predicted the exterior design tax would generate nearly $24 million over the biennium. Because the legislature had to find funds elsewhere, the exterior design tax was replaced with new service/sales tax, which includes snow removal.

According to Dan Jones, a legislative consultant for the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association, the ONLA Legislative Committee and the ONLA Board will be trying to decide whether to oppose this issue as the bill moves through the Senate. GLENDORA, Calif. – Rain Bird Corporation officially unveiled the color rendering of its 2004 Tournament of Roses Parade float entry?EUR??,,????'??+Springtime Symphony?EUR??,,????'??+in a ceremony held at the company?EUR??,,????'???s headquarters.

Springtime Symphony is emblematic of the arrival of spring, and will depict new and continuing life rising above the glistening winter snow thaw to unveil the magnificent colors and textures of the Southwestern landscape. The float will feature eight separate waterfalls with over 1,500 gallons of flowing and cascading water, a signature element of all of Rain Bird?EUR??,,????'???s floats. It highlights Rain Bird?EUR??,,????'???s vision for the intelligent use of water, the company?EUR??,,????'???s veneration for water as it relates to environmental preservation.

The float will feature a family of newly-hatched endangered spotted owl chicks, nestled in the protective care of their parents, safely perched in the crown of an oversized conifer tree. Not far away, a red-crested pileated woodpecker, the largest woodpecker in North America, drills for food as furry chipmunks scurry about tirelessly in search of their next meal. At the front of the float a curious ocelot cub is spotted exploring the blossoming playground, but instinct keeps the cat from venturing too close to the nesting owls.

Rain Bird has been honored with several Rose Parade trophies: the Sweepstakes Trophy in 2002, 2001, 1999 and 1998, the President’s Trophy in 2000, and the Directors’ Trophy in 1997.
