This year’s Xeriscape ‘87 conference will be held March 25-26 at the Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. The theme of the conference is Conserving Water.
Workshop sessions for day one include presentations about landscape design, maintenance, irrigation, and plant materials at both the introductory and advanced levels.
Day two workshop sessions will provide xeriscape information specific to coastal/foothill regions and desert/inland valley regions.
An added bonus this year will be the “Orientation to Landscape Water Audits” sessions. These sessions will actually take you “out in the field” to conduct a mini-audit of a nearby lawn. Then it’s back to the classroom to produce an irrigation schedule using a new lap-top computer developed just for this purpose.
Workshops will be limited to 40 people per session. In addition, the California Association of Nurserymen is sponsoring a bus tour, Thursday afternoon, scheduled to visit local wholesale nurseries. The tour will focus on low-water use plants for xeriscape. Be sure to register early and indicate on your registration form which one of the workshops you would like to attend or if you plan to participate in the bus tour.
Xeriscape ‘87 is cosponsored by the Municipal Water District of Orange County, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and the California Department of Water Resources.
Registration is $75 for both days and $50 for one day. A special student registration fee has been established at $60 for both days and $40 for one day. A full-time student identification card is required. All fees include registration, proceedings, and lunches.
For additional information write or call Xeriscape ‘87, P.O. Box 15229, Santa Ana, CA 92705, phone (714) 973-1023.

GardenAmerica Corporation, a leading manufacturer of components for residential and commercial landscape watering systems, has changed the name of its Richdel Turf Products Division to GardenAmerica to better identify the company’s direction for future growth.
The name change, according to James S. Fetherston, chairman and chief executive officer, “signifies our company’s commitment to provide produces that solve professional contractor and architects’ landscape problems.”
While the Richdel corporate name will be replaced by GardenAmerica, it will be used as a brand name for the rapidly expanding Richdel Professional Series of turf irrigation products. In December 1986 GardenAmerica strengthened its commitment to the turf irrigation market with the acquisition of Irri-Trol??????oe, a leading manufacturer of solid state controllers for professional landscape architects and installers. Both the Richdel and Irri-Trol brands will be marketed through the newly named GardenAmerica Turf Products Division.
