The Landscape Architectural Foundation (LAF) has added five outstanding leaders of the landscape architectural profession to its board of directors. The new members will help guide and manage LAF in coming years: Phillip E. Flores, principal and founder of Phillip E. Flores, Denver, Colorado; M. Paul Freidberg, principal and founder of M. Paul Friedberg and Partners, New York, New York; Edmund C. Kagi, principal of the SWA Group, Inc., Houston, Texas; Gerard F. Leider, president of Tropical Plant Rentals, Inc., Prairie View, lilinois and George Matarazzo, principal and founder of Matarazzo Design, Concord, New Hampshire.

This year LAF will award approximately $3,000 in professional prizes. These awards?EUR??,,????'??+available to firms, practitioners, and researchers, were established to recognize outstanding design and research projects in the field of landscape architecture. The four prizes to be bestowed include: the Toro Irrigation Awards, innovative irrigation application and techniques; the Fraser Landscape Heritage Award, creative horticultural research and design; AILA/ Taro Yamagami/HOPE Fellowship Award, continuing education fellowship and the Lester Walls Endowment Fund, research on barrier-free design.

The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) is meeting in April to decide what action will be taken to deal with the conclusions of a report submitted in January regarding the Uniform National Examination. The report, commissioned by the California State Board of Landscape Architects, and conducted by the Central Testing Unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs, very critical of both the content of the test and the way the tests are graded. The entire issue will be the topic of a future article in LASN. Watch for it.

Professional Seminar Consultants, Inc., has organized a two week all inclusive continuing education program in landscape architecture in the Soviet Union. Presenting this program will be Baker H. Morrow, ASLA at the invitation of PSC. The program topics will include: an introduction to Russian landscape design; landscape and garden design in Moscow and Leningrad; Mediterranean influence in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan and Armenia and the influence of Persia and Central Asia. This program may be eligible for continuing education units for landscape architects in states that require continuing education. LANDCADD has announced a version of their professional land planner package that works with AutoCad Release 9. Included in the package is site planning and landscape design, irrigation design, E-Z Estimate and the plant specifier.
