Gary Robinette


Dean Edward M. Baum of the School of Architecture and Environmental Design at The University of Texas, Arlington, announces the appointment, after an extensive national search, of Gary O. Robinette as Director of the Landscape Architecture program.

Mr. Robinette received his undergraduate degree and his Masters of Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University. After graduation he practiced in New York City and later taught at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Robinette then joined the staff of the American Society of Landscape Architects in Washington, D.C., as Associate Director of Education and Research. He was also the first Executive Director of the Landscape Architecture Foundation, where he initiated and managed research in a number of areas including professional education, barrier-free design and the environmental impact of plant materials.






Richard R. Conant, ASLA


Richard R. Conant, ASLA, recognized Landscape Architect and principal of the Orlando-based Foster-Conant & Associates, has been elected the Distinguished Alumnus for 1988 by the University of Florida, College of Architecture/Department of Landscape Architecture. Conant was elected the Distinguished Alumnus for his “noteworthy and effective” professional work in landscape architecture throughout the state, his dedication to education through annual licensure reviews, and his firm’s recognized intern programs for aspiring Landscape Architects, according to Herrick H. Smith, FASLA, professor and chair of the University’s Department of Landscape Architecture.

Paul Verlander, ASLA, a partner with the landscape architectural firm of Wallis, Baker & Verlander in Winter Park, Florida has been selected among numerous Orlando area professionals to serve on the Orlando Science Center’s Assciate Board of Directors. In addition, WBV is pleased to announce that Phil Rampy has joined their staff on a permanent basis. Mr. Rampy has been employed by WBV for the past year on a part-time basis while completing his degree in Business Management at the University of Central Florida. His responsibilities will be expanded to include public relations and client coordination.

Ted Wirth


Land Management Consultants, Inc., headquatered in Salt Lake City, and Wirth Design Associates, of Billings, Montana, announced that the two firms will consolidate their Utah offices and jointly pursue design contracts for landplanning and landscape architecture.

“Wirth Design and LMC have cooperated on numerous projects during the last several years,” said John L. Maas, president of LMC. “We decided to formalize the relationship between the two firms because of the manner in which our services complement each other.”

Wirth Design specializes in land planning and landscape architecture and has extensive experience in the Middle East. LMC is a landscape architecture firm also, but offers specialized services in landmanagement planning.

“By combining our landplanning services with LMC’s program for program management, we can offer clients a comprehensive package,” explained Ted Wirth, president of Wirth Design.

LMC is a landscape architectural firm founded in 1984. “We serve developers as well as owners of completed projects who need solutions to costly maintenance problems,” said Maas. “By focusing on maintainability during the design and development stages, monitoring the completed project, and training maintenance personnel, we can help clients get their land-management problems under control.”

Wirth Design Associates was established in 1961, and over the years has stressed the multidisplinary approach to addressing environmental issues and solving landuse problems. The firm’s range of project experience includes new towns, parks, resorts, recreation facilities and land reclamation, both nationwide and internationally.






Richard Dunn


Richard Dunn has been appointed the new Institutional Series national account manager at Hunter Industries, announced Chuck Huston, national sales manager of the sprinkler manufacturer.

With more than 14 years experience in the irrigation industry, Dunn will also identify new markets for Hunter’s expanding line of Institutional Series products.






Donald Clark


Donald Clark, Alan Lapham, and Miguel Gutierrez have been appointed specification managers for the Turf Products Division of Garden America, according to Rex Dixon, vice president and general manager.

These managers will interface with specifiers and architects, providing them with updated information on products and programs. Clark brings to this position more than six years experience in the irrigation industry, most recently serving as a regional sales manager for Champion Irrigation Products, Inc. Lapham comes to Garden America from Rain Bird International, Inc., where he served in a series of positions, including sales manger of Rain Bird Australia and sales manager for RBI. Gutierrez formerly served as a sales engineer for Normac, Inc.

Garden America Corporation, headquartered in Carson City, Nevada, manufactures and markets the Richdel and Irri-Trol brands of professional irrigation equipment.






Chuck Hoover


Bartron Corporation, manufacturers of “Grassroad Pavers” in Irvine, California, have announced the appointment of Charles “Chuck” Hoover of CH Sales, as their manufacturers representative in Southern California. Chuck Hoover will be working closely with landscape architects, engineers, structural architects and cities, as well as coordinating product sales with Bartron Corporation’s distributor sales program. Chuck Hoover served as Executive Vice President for Irri-Trol, Inc. prior to forming CH Sales in 1987.






Wendy Dart


Wendy Dart has been appointed industrial marketing coordinator for the Turf Division of Rain Bird Sales, Inc. according to Ken Mills, director of sales and marketing. In her new position, Dart assists in the preparation and coordination of trade shows and the annual Master Turf Distributor meeting. She is also involved in the development and distribution of sales literature and videos.

Tom Barrett has been appointed a district manager for the Turf Division of Rain Bird Sales, Inc., according to Ken Mills, director of sales and marketing.

In his new position, Barrett is responsible for providing sales support to Rain Bird distributors and contractors and serving as a liason between Rain Bird management and landscape architects, irrigation consultants and city and county officials. His territory includes the Great Lakes region.
