The Landscape Design Awards Foundation has announced its 1985 national and statewide winners in the landscape design competition open to landscape architects, designers, landscape contractors and students. In the National Professional Division, first place for Small Lot: James Hiss and Elliott/ Maloney; third place for Small Lot: Ernest L. Nickels; first place for Large Lot: Frank Bellomo; first place for Backyard Environment: John Montgomery; second place Backyard Environment: Patricia Bester. National Student Division winners were Matthew Tsugawa for first place Small Lot; and Clayton Pruitt for first place Large Lot Statewide first place award winners were David Pechmann, Gail Barry, Kolchi Kobayshi, Tom Keith, Mary Effron, Barry Landry, Jon Bryan Burley, Valerie Hall and MikeStatham. Second place award winners were Charies S. Lamb, and Todd Mumma. Third place award winner was Nancy Balderston. Other recognition went to Charles Hetenyl for Superior Graphics, Jeffrey Hodgson for Rendering Technique, Samuel K. Kim for Graphic Interest, Victoria DeAngelis-Alger for Superior Presentation and Vaughan Hintz for Superior Design Concept.
Gregg Applegate is the new salesman at Pacific Coast Nurseries, a five-year-old, 85-acre nursery in Placentia, California. He previously was a salesman at KeeIine Wiicox in Irvine, California for eight years. Applegate is a certified arborist, and a regular member of the American Society of Landscape Architects with a background in landscape architecture from Cal Poly, Pomona. He has been working in nurseries since 1963.
Chino Valley Trees, in Chino, California, announces Michael Clayton as a new member of their sales staff. Clayton has seven years of experience in nurseries beginning with Nurseryland Garden Centers in Colton, California where he was a manager. He will be handling the retail and chain accounts as well as other independent nurseries. Also, Clayton will be dealing with landscape developers and contractors for contract growing.
Roadrunner Tree Farm announces Larry Wilhelms as its new director of sales and marketing. Wilhelm has been working for Roadrunner Tree Farm as a consultant of marketing over the last two years.
He has his master of science degree in the School of Agriculture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and did his undergraduate work in Ornamental Horticulture and Crop Science.
