The American Society of Landscape Architects/San Diego Chapter announces the election results for the 1989 Executive Committee to represent the 200 member society in the San Diego region.
Keith D. Simon, Vice President of Wimmer Yamada & Associates, will serve as President. Simon is currently ViceChair of the National ASLA Open Committees, a member of the 1989 LEAD San Diego program, and a past Director of the California Council of Landscape Architects. He served as chair for the 1988 ASLA/San Diego Chapter Design Awards Program.
Other Executive Committee Officers include: Vice Presidents Brad Lewis of KTU8A and Bill Mastick of Austin Hansen Fehiman Group; Secretary Laura Graul of KTU&A; Treasurer Joey Jacoby of Nordquist 8 Associates; and Trustee Bill Burton of Deweese Burton Associates.

Ronald M. Izumita has been chosen to receive a 1988 Distinguished Alumnus Award for the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona. The award was presented in ceremonies at the university.
Izumita is senior partner and chairman of the board of POD, Inc., landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm headquartered in Santa Ana.
He attended Cal Poly from 1955-62, when he earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree. His Master of Landscape Architecture degree was received four years later from Harvard Graduate School.
A member of Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Environmental Design Advisory Council, he participates annually in lecture series, workshops and presentations at both Cal Poly Pomona and Harvard Graduate School to provide guidance to aspiring landscape architects, planners and designers.
Scaliter Irrigation, an irrigation design and water management firm announces that their office has moved to 1902 Aaron Drive, Redlands, California 92374, (714) 794-5811 and (714) 794-5873. The company is headed by Daniel Scaliter, a soil and water engineering graduate of Israel’s Ruppin Agricultural Institute. He is a member of both the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the American Society of Irrigation Consultants.
SI opened its office in California in January, 1987, and stresses efficeint water usage with an emphasis on water management and drip irrigation.
Ronald S. Teshima is pleased to announce the establishment of Teshima Design Group, Landscape Architects and Planners, with offices in San Diego and Arizona. The San Diego office is located at 9868 Scranton Road, Suite 240. The Tempe, Arizona office is at 398 S. Mill Avenue, Suite 304.
The 1,503 room Marriott’s Orlando World Center, a resort and convention hotel, received two State Awards of Excellence, including one “Best of Category” award, for landscape maintenance in the 1988 Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association Landscape Awards Program. The FNGA Award of Excellence gives recognition to the excellence of landscape beautifcation and maintenance. The hotel won a Best of Category award for interior maintenance and a State Award of Excellence for exterior maintenance of the property’s lush landscape.
The hotel’s award-winning projects won over 127 entries submitted from across the country and Canada in the maintenance category. Entries were judged on preservation of design integrity, neatness, and healthy appearance of application of special techniques.
New Image Industries, a newly established firm specializing in computer imaging systems for landscape architecture, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Burke to its architectural consulting staff. Alan had previously managed a design/build company, International Landscaping, in El Segundo, California and is a graduate of the University of Florida’s program in Landscape Architecture. New Image has offices in Tokyo, Brussells, London, Oslo, Melbourne, and Los Angeles. The New Image Architectural Imaging computer system was featured in a recent issue of LASN.
Purkiss-Rose, Landscape Architects, is pleased to announce the promotion of Meredith M. Kaplan and James R. Pickel to Principal. Their combined years of education and experience in research, design, planning and production add depth to the firm’s strong professional position. In addition to project management responsibilities, Meredith’s work includes communication, promotion, and in-office education. She is a California registered Landscape Architect and a graduate of the Masters program of Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona. Jim performs as Production Manager, Project Manager, and Irrigation Design Director. In addition, he has developed graphic and production standards for the firm. He has a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona.
Roger D. Fiske, President of Fiske Landscaping, Inc., Danville, has been named a Life Member of the California Landscape Contractors Association.
CLCA reserves this honor for contractors who have supported the association as dues-paying members for 25 consecutive years. Life members have no further dues obligation and are entitled to all previously granted association benefits.
A graduate of UC Berkeley with a B.A. degree in landscape architecture, Fiske is a licensed landscape architect, as well as a contractor. He has two children and resides with his wife in San Ramon.
CLCA is the nation’s oldest and largest organization of state-licensed landscape and irrigation contracts, and their suppliers.
The Arizona Landscape Contractors, Association elected their new officers for 1988.
Richard Underwood (AAA Landscape, Tucson, Arizona) becomes the association’s 25th President, and Douglas Jones (Western Tree, Phoenix, Arizona) becomes President Elect. Also installed for 1988 are Vice President Treasurer Robert Underwood (AAA Landscape, Phoenix, Arizona), and Secretary Cal Crozier (W.A.P.C.O.). The Past Presidents include John Harlow, Craig Potter, Andre Cuenoud, and Sharon Dewey.
