Chris Perry has recently been promoted to Project Manager for Landform Industries of Orange, California. According to Charles deGarmo, spokesman for the company, “Chris has proven to be an asset to our overall picture. He has proven his ability to handle large tasks effectively and we have great confidence in him as a project manager.” Perry has been with the firm for four years, working as a project coordinator.

Klaus W. Ahlers of Carlacio Landscape, Inc., Placentia, has been elected as the new president of the California Landscape & Irrigation Council, and officially took office on Jan. 1.

He succeeds Charles R. Johnson of California Landscape, Inc., Canoga Park, who served as the 1986 president.

Meanwhile, Julie Kitch of ABC Lawn Sprinkler Co., Newhall, has been elected to the position of president-elect and will automatically succeed to the presidency in 1988. She will become the first woman ever to serve as the Council president.

Other officers elected to the Council’s Board of Directors include:

Vice President William N. Cohen of Valley Crest Landscape, Inc., Calabasas.

Vice President John Carlson of Carlson’s Landscaping, Inc., Fountain Valley.

Vice President Mark Acevedo of Kato Landscaping, Inc., Fountain Valley.

Secretary-Treas. Mickey Strauss of American Landscape, Inc., Canoga Park.

Johnson returns to the Board as the immediate past president.

The Council is a trade association of union-affiliated landscape and irrigation contractors who specialize in large-scale commercial, industrial, housing, and public works projects.

Joe Brazan, the Council’s executive secretary for the past 18 years, will continue in this post, operating out of the organization’s office in Whittier.

The Land/Plan Group, Inc., the Montgomery, Alabama-based landscape architecture firm, recently announced the appointment of Lynda Wayne to the position of Landscape Architectural Intern. Her responsibilities include design and production, as well as project management.

?EUR??,,????'??The Land/Plan Group has realized a great deal of success in the landscape architecture/land planning market in the one short year that it has been since we started,” says Rip Weaver, President of the design firm. “Our hard work has paid off and we now are in a position to begin expanding our staff to better serve the needs of our clients.”

The landscape architecture program at Texas Tech University will present five professional speakers this spring semester. Included are Kurt Culbertson from Design Workshop, Inc., Aspen, Colorado; Kelly Green, Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department, Lubbock, Texas; Gary Wydeveld, Thomas Reprographics, Richardson, Texas; Guy Johns, Royston, Hanamoto, Alley and Abey, Albuquerque, NM; and Don Simpson, H.O.K., Dallas, Texas. The Student ASLA Chapter at Tech will host all invited guests.

The Landscape/Land Use Planning open committee of ASLA has set up regional offices to better serve its ASLA membership. If any individual firm, educational institution, or design/planning group wishes to publicize an item of interest regarding landscape or land use planning, please submit your article to John Rodiek, P.O. Box 4169, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas 79409. They hope to release a national newsletter with regional contributions midyear 1987.






Yvonne Fenner


Yvonne Fenner has been appointed meeting coordinator for the California Landscape Contractors Association, according to Sharon McGuire, executive director of CLCA.

Jim Borer has been named Valley Crest Tree Company sales representative for construction related projects in the San Diego, Orange County, Inland Empire areas, according to Karl Vandervoort, branch manager of the Specimen Division.






Greg Meyer


For the second time, Greg Meyer, vice president and branch manager of the Sylmar office of Valley Crest Tree Company, was named associate member of the year at the CLCA’s annual convention in Hawaii.

Each year the CLCA recognizes one regular and one associate member for outstanding overall involvement in the organization. Meyer has been involved in the CLCA for over 13 years, serving on a variety of committees. For the past four years, he has been a member of the Landscape Industry Show Committee, serving as chairman for the past two years….






Peter Zari


Weather-matic has appointed Peter Zari regional sales manager for Northern California. Mr. Zari was most recently an independent landscape irrigation designer and installer in the San Diego area.

Mae Martin Designs has moved to 17945 Sky Park Circle, Irvine, California.

Garth Hokanson has announced his plans to resign from his position as President of Jenco Wholesale Nurseries. Hokanson has served as President of Jenco for nearly four years and has been with Jenco and its preceding parent company for over nine years. Jenco has six wholesale facilities located in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. These facilities distribute a wide variety of plants and supplies for use by the landscape and nursery industry. Jenco is a member of the Tri-West Corporation, one of the largest horticultural companies in the country.

Richdel Turf Irrigation Division has named five 1986 Distributors of the Year, according to Rex Dixon, general manager. The companies are: Century Rain Aid of Madison Heights, Mich., Ewing Irrigation Products of San Leandro, Calif., Rite-Flo Supply of Tampa, Florida, Smith Pipe & Supply of Newbury Park, Calif. and Turf Irrigation & Water Works of Phoenix, Ariz.

Uni.Group U.S.A., an association of manufacturers and distributors of UNI paving products, elected Chris Ross of Balcon, Inc., as Chairman at their recent annual meeting held in San Francisco.

He succeeds John O’Neill of Anchor Interlock Paver Corp., Bricktown, NJ.

The association also elected David Bender of Pavestone Co., Grapevine, Texas, as Vice Chairman.
