UVA Professor and former Charlottesville Mayor and Councilor Maurice Cox has received the Edmund N. Bacon Prize, which rewards leading advocates of urban development, planning and design. In 2007, Cox became design director at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Now, Cox is returning to Charlottesville and continuing his teaching at the School of Architecture.
Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, Inc., an Orlando civil engineering, planning and landscape architecture firm, has been acquired by AECOM Technology Corp. The acquisition of the 90-employee Orlando-based Glatting Jackson by the Los Angeles-based firm?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s United States operations was announced in December 2009. The Glatting Jackson acquisition is expected to help AECOM enhance services to clients in environmental sciences, landscape architecture, planning, transportation and urban design.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, has appointed Kathy W. Achelpohl, of Kansas City, and Kenneth M. Frashier, of Lake Lotawana, to the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects. Achelpohl is a principal with the architecture firm BNIM and has more than 24 years experience as an architect. Frashier founded the architecture firm of Kenneth M. Frashier & Associates in 1976 and has more than 45 years of design experience in retail, interiors, industrial, custom residential and banks.
HDLA, Inc. (Harvey Design Land Architects) recently added two new team members. Tony Campbell, AutoCAD Designer, has twenty years experience in design development of environmental, commercial, municipal, mechanical, residential, and historic projects. Ben Dance has joined HDLA as an Architecture Intern. Dance is completing his studies at the University of Virginia in Architecture. HDLA is celebrating 30 years of providing Landscape Architectural services to Virginia and North Carolina.

Esther Margulies, ASLA, was named managing principal of Comstock Studio in Malibu and Greg Ochis, ASLA, was selected as managing principal of JamesHyatt Studio in Denver. E. Paul Wal Landscape Architects LLC, a land planning, landscape architecture, and construction management company, has opened an office in Okatie, South Carolina. Specializing in ?EUR??,,????'?????<?green?EUR??,,????'?????<? design practices, award-winning designer and owner Eric Paul Walsnovich has over 17 years of landscape planning and design, landscape construction and project management experience. Eric is professionally licensed in S.C., N.C., Ga., and Pa., with design and management experience on several LEED-Certified projects, including the LEED-Gold rated 2008 HGTV Green Home project in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
Bill Burke, RLA, APA, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, has joined Oates Associates, a civil and structural engineering, architectural design firm, to head up the firm?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s new urban planning and landscape architecture group. Burke?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s appointment marks the firm?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s second expansion within six months. Oates added architectural services in August 2009. Burke is a member of the American Planning Association, the Urban Land Institute and has served on the Southwestern Illinois Leadership Council and the Village of Glen Carbon Planning and Zoning Commission. He has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Arkansas.
The 50+ Housing Council, a special interest council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California, announced the installation of the 2010 Board of Directors and the Council President of the Board, Andy Bowden. Serving as president for a second term, Mr. Bowden is a principle of Land Concern Landscape Architecture in Santa Ana, CA. In addition to Mr. Bowden, other officers were installed for 2010 and include 1st Vice President, Susan Sirota; 2nd Vice President, Valerie Hardman, Valerie Hardman, Outdoor Dimensions; Treasurer, Anthony Sandoval and Secretary, Julia Moore.
