WASHINGTON, D.C. – The third annual Licensure Summit will be held June 4-6, 2004. Previously the summit was held in November, but to avoid conflicts with the ASLA annual meeting and other fall events, this meeting and subsequent summits will take place in the summer.
No location has been finalized, but it is expected to take place in New England. The four target states in that region are Vermont, New Hampshire (neither has licensure), Maine or Massachusetts (both have title acts).
The Licensure Summit is the cornerstone of the ?EUR??,,????'??ASLA 50 by 2010?EUR??,,????'?? licensure campaign to see practice act licensure enacted in every state and the District of Columbia by the year 2010. It serves as an important opportunity for each member organization of the Partnership for the Advancement of Licensure?EUR??,,????'??+ASLA, CLARB, and CELA?EUR??,,????'??+to share expertise and promote their common goals of advancing licensure and advancing the profession of landscape architecture.
Attendance at the third summit will mirror previous years where ASLA chapters will select one person from each state to attend the summit, and ASLA national will contribute air/hotel costs for those representatives.
AUSTIN, Texas – A host of new laws affecting landscape architects are on the books and being enforced in Texas.
These laws include: a statement of jurisdiction, which requires landscape architects to include a statement of jurisdiction in every written contract for professional services. The statement must include contact information for the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners and must state that the board has jurisdiction over complaints regarding a registrant?EUR??,,????'???s professional practices. If no written contract is used, the statement must be included in bills for services or posted on a sign in the registrant?EUR??,,????'???s office.
Late registration renewal penalties are now in effect as well. If a renewal payment is not received on or before the due date for renewal of a license, a late fee will be applied as before. The second late fee, however, will be applied at 91 days rather than at 31 days, with fees increasing slightly.
A new law also mandates the automatic cancellation of any license that has not been renewed within 365 days of the renewal deadline. Once the license is cancelled, it will be necessary to reapply for the license and go through the entire approval process, which could include reexamination.
VIENNA, VA – Dickson F. DeMarche, principal of the Wilton Connecticut firm, LaurelRock Company/Dickson DeMarche Landscape Architects, was appointed president of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards.
DeMarche succeeds William P. ?EUR??,,????'??Chip?EUR??,,????'?? Winslow III, who will now assume the office of past president.
Sandra J. Gonzalez was elected first vice president/president-elect. Greg Sturtevant was elected second vice president and Cleveland Turner III was elected treasurer.
Karl ?EUR??,,????'??Gil?EUR??,,????'?? Berry continues his two-year term as secretary. CLARB?EUR??,,????'???s regional directors for the coming year are Frank L. Basciano, John J. Fernholz, Laura Gaynor, Dennis C. Wilkinson and James W. Figurski.
