Landscape architecture and planning firm TBG Partners named principal Jim Manskey as president of the 27-year-old firm. Founder Earl Broussard will maintain day-to-day involvement and continue to serve as chairman of the board of directors. Manskey joined the firm 1997 and opened the Dallas office, overseeing its growth for many years as well as the opening of a Fort Worth office in 2010. He received his bachelor of science in landscape architecture from Texas A&M University in 1979 and maintains involvement with the Urban Land Institute, ASLA and Southlake Executive Forum. The firm added John Dupuy to the Houston office in the role of senior associate. Dupuy has more than 20 years of diverse professional experience working on urban design, planning and landscape architecture projects. A native of Luling, Louisiana, he received his bachelor of landscape architecture from Louisiana State University in 1993 and he is a registered landscape architect in Texas and Oklahoma.
WhiteWater promoted Simon Palmer to the position of waterpark sales manager, Europe and Africa. Simon will be working with customers throughout Europe and Africa ensuring their waterpark and amusement requirements are met and exceeded. Palmer has an impressive background in the waterpark industry having worked for companies such as Center Parcs and facilitating the opening of the Tussauds Group's first waterpark hotel in Europe called Splash Landings.
Ryan Cousineau has been appointed to the newly created position of Canadian account executive for the Wagner Companies. Based out of Toronto, he will oversee a sales territory that includes central Canada. In addition to his sales experience, Cousineau has a bachelor's degree in commerce management from the University of Ottawa. He will focus on the strategic growth of his territory which is comprised primarily in Ontario initially.
St. Louis ASLA Chapter presented the Goetz Award to Bob Belden, a longtime landscape architect in St. Louis and mentor to many. Belden was a critical part of the foundation of the landscape architecture practice at HOK. After four years of experience in site design and field supervision for the National Park Service and Missouri State Park Board, he joined the firm in 1967.
Responding to the resurgence in new home construction, Oldcastle Architectural has created the position of national homebuilder representative and named Todd Jones to educate builders on best practices for using masonry and hardscape products in their home designs and community development. Jones comes from ULC-Landscape Architects and Contractors, a design build firm in College Station, Texas, where he served as vice president of operations.
John Nicolaus has established his own firm, The Office of John Nicolaus, Landscape Architects and Urban Planners. Nicolaus, who has been practicing landscape architecture in Sacramento for 25 years, had most recently been a principal at Mogavero Notestine Associates. Citing the region's rebounding economy and need for experienced design professionals, Nicolaus felt the timing was perfect for establishing a new firm.
Mahan Rykiel Associates, a Baltimore based landscape architecture, urban design, and planning firm, won design awards from the Maryland Chapter ASLA. The Children's Inn Play Garden at N.I.H won an Honor Award and the Druid Hill Park Lake Plan won a Merit Award. The awards were selected by a jury of peers that included members of the Vermont Chapter of ASLA and presented at an awards ceremony in Baltimore on April 24. Lydia Kimball, PLA, LEED AP BD+C, principal and project manager for Children's Inn Play Garden said, "It was truly a collaborative effort; it involved a group of very talented partners and volunteers, working together to realize a very special project." Alice Jones, also of MRA, was the lead designer. The Maryland Chapter selected its first recipient of the Award of Excellence. Catherine Mahan FASLA received this honor, based on her tremendous contribution to the landscape architectural profession throughout her entire career.
Luke Haas has joined R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – Brookfield, Wis., as a landscape architect. Haas has completed landscape design and site planning projects for residential and commercial developments, lifestyle centers, courtyards/plazas and community parks.
