?EUR??,,????'?????<

While most of you have not seen that opener to the commentary page before, I?EUR??,,????'?????<LASN . . .

Wow . . . It?EUR??,,????'?????<

It?EUR??,,????'?????<

Yep . . . We?EUR??,,????'?????<LASN was born 25 years ago in July of 1985. Back then I was a skinny kid with a full head of hair. Now . . . Well, let?EUR??,,????'?????<

a bit . . .

Back then, Joe Brazen (cool name for a PR agency guy) was telling me to get a real job, and that Landscape Architects were too small of a niche to produce a magazine for. LAs were only licensed in a couple dozen states, mostly Title Acts, and 92-year-oldRay Page, the Father of LA licensure, was telling me stories of Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Marilyn Monroe, and sitting in the Jack London Cafe in San Francisco with a couple of fellow ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Yep . . . We?EUR??,,????'?????<

Actually, if you go to landscapearchitect.com www.landscapearchitect.com/research/article/13783 you can read all about the humble beginnings of LASN. The story hasn?EUR??,,????'?????<

Today, LASN reaches about 20,000 licensed or registered landscape architects across the United States. In fact, LASN reaches about twice as many landscape architects as the ASLA. We have more RLAs than the other magazine has readers, and then we go to a bunch of city planners, developers, engineers, architects and other land development professionals, making us 50 percent larger than the closest competitor.

Back in 1985, LASN had about a dozen advertisers. Today, there are about 470 advertisements in this issue alone . . . Almost makes me feel like Cosmo . . .

Today, LASN is published both in print and digitally and has two sisters, landscapearchitect.com and landscapearchitect Weekly, one brother, Landscape Contractor / Design Build Maintain and a couple of cousins called The Landscape Expo, which are spreading out across the good old USofA.

So what?EUR??,,????'?????<

Well . . . In 25 years there is a good chance a different Schmok will be writing these commentaries, as all three of the young-uns are working for the company and the daughter is looking like the one who will be bossing folks around . . .

In the meantime you?EUR??,,????'?????<LASN to find the most up-to-date news, state-of-the-art designs and products that make it all happen . . . And next month I?EUR??,,????'?????<
See you then . . .

God Bless.
