"An optimist and a visionary" rightly describes Bob Cardoza. One could also add a tireless advocate and ideal role model for the landscape industry he served for over 50 years with a "sense of humor and broad smile."
Graduating in 1964 from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a degree in landscape architecture, Bob worked for various organizations before co-founding Cardoza, DiLallo & Associates in 1971 (which became NUVIS in 1994) serving as CEO, president, and chairman of the board.
Besides running a successful business, Bob helped to establish the CLASS Fund, played a major role in the unification of the AILA and the ASLA, mentored LASN, and represented the ASLA Southern California Chapter on Caltrans' Corridor Management Design Group.
Bob also held many industry organization offices including: president of the Los Angeles chapter of AILA, chairman of AILA's International Convention, international president of AILA, national trustee for ASLA, secretary and vice president of ASLA's California Council, chairman of the board, and scholarship chair of CLASS Fund.
Bob also embraced civic responsibilities in the communities he called home. To honor his efforts, Bob was elected to AILA's College of Fellows (1981), received ASLA's California Council Distinguished Citation for Leadership (1981), became an ASLA Fellow (1982), named CLASS Fund's Professional of the Year (1990) and a Distinguished Alumni, College of Environmental Design, Cal Poly Pomona (2003).
