From its inception in 2001, AOLP set out to raise the bar in the field. One of the earliest and most notable milestones was the establishment of its certification programs: the Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) and the Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer (COLD) credentials. These programs addressed the lack of standardized training in low-voltage systems and design principles.

 

Education and industry-building have remained central to AOLP's mission. A key annual event is the Illuminate Conference & Expo, which brings together lighting professionals nationwide to exchange ideas, showcase products, and highlight outstanding design work through its Lighting Awards.

Over the past 25 years, AOLP has grown into a respected leader in the industry thanks to the dedication and collaboration of its members and staff. From the early days of the organization, passionate lighting professionals have worked hand-in-hand with AOLP's leadership to shape a community rooted in professionalism, education,and innovation.
