Brewer Fountain Plaza, Boston

The plaza stands at the foot of the hill to the Massachusetts State House in Boston Common, one of the nation's oldest public parks and highly used by residents of Boston and visitors. The historic fountain is a bronze casting of a sculpture created for the 1855 World's Fair in Paris. The fountain was donated to the city by Beacon Hill merchant, Gardner Brewer and installed on the Common near Beacon Street in 1868. The firm prepared a series of conceptual design alternatives with plans, sections, cost estimates and illustrative sketches. The design alternatives were aimed at revitalizing the plaza as an oasis from busy downtown Boston while maintaining the ability to accommodate large gatherings, serve as a free speech zone and improve seating opportunities.

Eastport Park Roof Garden, South Boston

The firm collaborated on the redesign of Eastport Park, an urban roof garden located in the Seaport District. This park, situated over an underground garage, includes over an acre of lush greenery and winding paths. The redesign was undertaken because the benefactor who financed the original design felt the hardscape was too prominent and needed more greenery. Originally designed as an open-air sculpture garden, the renovations focused on reducing pavements, while removing and/or de-emphasizing the massive granite walls at the perimeter of the park that accommodate the extensive buffer of trees.

Northeastern University, Boston

The firm developed the Bernard M. Gordon Tribute to Engineering Leadership. Named for legendary engineering innovator Bernard Gordon, the tribute chronicles the achievements of Gordon and 10 other world-renowned engineering leaders through a series of videos and contextual background images. Pressley Associates assisted in the development and placement of the portal tribute, which stands 12 feet tall and is equipped with motion-activated video displays along its rectangular archway. When a viewer passes through the portal, the LED display activates with moving patterns and videos providing information on each pioneering engineer.
