The employee-owned Connecticut firm was founded in 1984 and licensed for the practice of landscape architecture and engineering. It has developed a collaborative team of specialty planning and design practices in site design; water resource engineering and environmental science; transportation and traffic engineering; and water and wastewater engineering. Choate Rosemary Hall Athletic Fields and Pond Restoration & Dredging, Wallingford, Conn.

Milone & MacBroom, Inc. provided design services for a natural turf JV baseball field and two multiuse, state-of-the-art synthetic fields on the campus of Choate Rosemary Hall, a private boarding school. The facility has two side-by-side field hockey and lacrosse fields, plus many exciting amenities: terraced spectator seating area; a beautifully landscaped entry plaza; a large engraved granite field sign; a large equipment storage garage; and elite field lighting. The firm also evaluated alternatives for pond dredging, dam safety and landscape improvements in and around the ponds by the Admissions Building. The American Sports Builders Association awards program recognized Shanahan Field as a winner in the multifield category.

Farmington Canal Greenway, Cheshire, Hamden & New Haven, Conn.

From the inception of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) enhancement program, Milone & MacBroom, Inc., has been among the leaders in the planning and design of bicycle and pedestrian ways in Connecticut and elsewhere. Prior to ISTEA, the firm had been involved in the planning of the Farmington Canal rails-to-trails conversion in Cheshire, Hamden and New Haven. The success of the Cheshire facility has been the catalyst for numerous other bicycle and pedestrian projects throughout the state.

Rockwell Park, Bristol, Conn.

The firm was contracted to develop a master plan for the restoration and revitalization of historic Rockwell Park, the flagship of the city's park system. With a construction cost of $7.5 million, the project plans included new gateway treatments (access drive, sidewalks, stone walls, columns, decorative fencing and lighting); new sidewalks for the solider monument; vehicular circulation and parking improvements; enhanced pedestrian accessibility; a new spray park and lighted volleyball court; wetlands creation and a new lagoon area.
