Austin Ganim Landscape Design, LLC
Fairfield, Conn.

Austin Ganim Landscape Design, LLC, offers design, installation and maintenance services for residential and commercial properties of all sizes and styles. Austin Ganim expanded Ganim's Garden Center to include landscape services with the creation of AGLD in 2003, and the addition of Eva Chiamulera incorporated landscape architecture to the company's offerings. Their design philosophy is informed by years of hands-on horticultural experience and real-world expertise.

Beach Area Residence, Westport, Conn.

Ganim and principal Eva Chiamulera created the landscape and hardscape designs for this private residence. Their crews installed and continue to maintain the plant material, while the builder's masons constructed the hardscape. The design met the homeowner's need for a friendly, private, relaxing atmosphere that focuses on plantings, while addressing the site's topographical challenges. A four-season approach to planting design ensures that there is always something interesting in the garden. The plantings also soften the property's privacy fencing.

Chiamulera created a landscape and hardscape plan for the pool area and adjacent gardens, integrating the new pool and patio into the existing rear terraces and hillside. In addition to the pool, Shoreline Pool installed the adjacent patio, walls and steps. The plantings were installed over several seasons to create a tranquil poolside garden, reminiscent of the relaxed landscape styles of beachfront estates. Blue and white hydrangeas provide the backdrop for perennials and grasses, while boxwoods provide structure during the winter months.

Children's Garden, Fairfield, Conn.

Austin Ganim Landscape Design was contacted by new homeowners to transform their sterile backyard into a dynamic environment where their children could play and learn, while doubling as a space for relaxing and entertaining guests. Chiamulera worked with the homeowners to develop a multi-year plan to transform their yard; the first phase of work solved the problem of a difficult slope and created a space for the children. The AGLD crew built raised planting beds, a stone wall to match the existing stonework at the site, and created space for a playhouse (by Klotter Farms) with vegetable gardens. A strawberry lined monolithic stone staircase passes between dwarf fruit trees and blueberry bushes to connect the lawn area to the vegetable garden and play house. From the porch swing the children can look out across the garden observing a mixture of bees, butterflies and birds as they pollinate the garden.
