Havasu Foothills, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Situated on 640 acres of native desert foothills on the eastern edge of Lake Havasu City, Havasu Foothills is a mixed use master-planned community featuring a variety of residential home site options, a mixed-use town center, parks, hiking trails and open space. The hiking trails weave through the community, naturally connecting neighborhoods with the amenities of the proposed town center. Mychal Gorden Design worked closely with the developers and municipality in the planning, project entitlements, design guidelines and landscape architecture for the project. Native washes and rock outcroppings were preserved as features throughout the development. Roadways, parks and common areas were integrated with the natural areas using a native plant palette.

The Refuge at Lake Havasu, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

The Refuge is a 300-acre master planned community along the shore of Lake Havasu and the Colorado River. The project includes an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course and 360 single-family custom homes. The firm was intimately involved from conception and was responsible for land planning, project entitlements, and landscape architecture for all aspects of the project including entry features, streetscapes, parks, golf course and clubhouse. Sculpted from native sand dunes along the Colorado River, the entire site was re-vegetated with native trees, plant materials, and wildflowers.

Along with design and development of the neighborhood and golf course, the firm designed over 100 outdoor spaces for custom homes within the community, including landscapes, hardscapes, pools, outdoor spaces and lighting. By integrating the look and feel of the community into the individual residences that line the streets and golf course fairways, the end result was a seamless integration of the natural and man-made environments throughout the project.

Backyard Oasis, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

While working closely with the owner and landscape contractor, MGD Inc. crafted the remodel of this project into a backyard oasis. Starting with the existing structures and the partial shell of an old pool, the firm brought in concrete pavers, walls and steps to create multiple outdoor living spaces for relaxation, play and entertainment. The project included many custom details, including fire features, water features, an outdoor kitchen, and specialty lighting design.

Residential Estate, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

The landscape surrounding this residential estate required careful and detailed planning of retaining walls, steps, concrete paver hardscapes, a pool, outdoor fireplace, and other features. The terraced landscape gave the property an expansive, resort-like atmosphere, while defining intimate spaces and maintaining views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The project included the installation of specimen palms and trees, and a mix of other plantings to add to the lush resort feel.
