National Harbor, Prince George’s County, Md.
National Harbor is a destination resort and marina on the Potomac. LandDesign participated in creating a master plan encompassing retail, hospitality, office, marinas, restaurants and residential uses. With tree-lined boulevards, promenades and expansive waterfront, National Harbor presents a true waterfront community. LandDesign did master planning, urban design and construction documentation for 3.9 million sq. ft. of waterfront entertainment/retail, 3,750-room hotel/resort and 1.3 million sq. ft. office. The site also features a 1.8-million sq. ft. town center, central waterfront, with a theme restaurant, retail and a 150,000-square-foot entertainment island.
Brambleton Town Center, Loudoun County, Va.
The Brambleton Town Center is a 350-acre urban core designed using traditional town patterns. At its heart is a 15-acre wooded central park and village green that preserved a pond, wetlands and mature hardwood trees. Community buildings, public facilities, residences and the retail center focus inward toward the park. The park’s central axis terminates to the north at a retail center and plaza and to the south by an elementary school. Single-family lots, town homes and multi-family units surround the park. The church, recreation center, hotel/conference center and office park have prominent views of the park and meandering greenway connections.
Downtown Silver Spring, Silver Spring, Md.
Downtown Silver Spring is a prominent mixed-use redevelopment near the Silver Spring Metrorail Station. The master plan includes retail, office, public parking, cinema complex and hotel. The plan includes the historic preservation of one of the country’s first strip shopping centers. To enhance the image of Silver Spring as an arts district, LandDesign designed plazas and space for everyday use, and flexible enough for small events. The historic Gateway Plaza shopping center is the entrance to downtown Silver Spring, highlighted by a plaza and a pedestrian breezeway that lead users through the shopping center to Silver Plaza. The plaza, surrounded by retail spaces, offers an interactive fountain and landscape features.
