L.A.R.E. Changes Exam will Reflect Results of Task Analysis FAIRFAX, VA Changes will be made to the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) beginning in June 1999 to reflect the current practice of the profession. These changes are the result of the Task Analysis Survey of the Profession of Landscape Architecture, which was recently completed. "These adjustments will ensure that the exam is constructed in accordance with the latest standards of testing, addresses the knowledge and skills currently required to practice the profession and is as fair and efficient as possible," explained Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) President David H. Fasser. "Exam candidates should also be pleased that the 1999 exam will contain one less section than the current test." A new exam, Section C- Planning and Site Design, will replace both current exam Section 3-Communication and Conceptualization and current exam Section 4-Design Synthesis. The titles of the L.A.R.E. sections will be changed slightly to reflect the content of each section. Also, to avoid confusion about sections, there will be a change from a numeric outline to an alphabetical outline. Current exam Section 3 and Section 4 will be administered for the last time in December 1998. Candidates who pass both sections will be given credit for the new exam Section C. Candidates who have passed either Section 3 or Section 4, but not both will be required to complete the new exam Section C. Candidates who are preparing to take the exam will still be able to use study material published by CLARB. Fasser explained, "Since the adjustments to the exam are minor, The Road to Licensure and Beyond will continue to be one of the best sources of information about the L.A.R.E. available."
