RIALTO, Calif. ?EUR??,,????'??? The Katherine Spitz Associates Inc. Landscape Architecture firm will be a major part in the revival of Rialto's economic life. Federal and transportation agency grants will be used to fund the $1.3 million-dollar project. The project plans to integrate five blocks of the city's streetscape with the Metrolink commuter train station in hopes of drawing the rail commuters into the downtown area. ?EUR??,,????'??This project exemplifies the idea that landscape design can and should play an integral part of daily life in urban and suburban communities,?EUR??,,????'?? said Katherine Spitz, AIA, ASLA. Residents will notice changes such as: new banner poles, pedestrian lighting, street furniture and bus stops; new trees planted to replace the existing Ficus trees; and a sculpture by architect David Denton, who will also be a part of the design process. Officials see this project as a possible model for other communities seeking to improve the economics and aesthetics of their downtowns.
