Landscaper’s Death Is Reminder of Every Present Accident Potential

A Ford F450 truck.

Safety is always a big concern for landscape contracting companies—sometimes a deadly matter. On June 14, 2005, an employee of Garden Way Landscaping in Pacific Grove, Calif., who was doing a residential job, got into the Ford F450 truck he had parked on a hill. He discovered the emergency brake would not release. The Monterey County Herald reported the man put the truck in neutral, got out of the truck on the driver’s side and manually pulled the emergency break pedal to try and release it. He succeeded. The truck rolled back and over the man, killing him. A fellow worker was able to jump into the truck and stop it.
