Commercial playground equipment manufacturer Landscape Structures Inc. www.playlsi.com has committed $200,000 to support the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SSI), an interdisciplinary partnership between the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the U.S. Botanic Garden, et al.

SSI www.sustainablesites.org is developing guidelines and standards for measuring the sustainability of designed landscapes of all types, as opposed to the U.S. Green Building Council?EUR??,,????'?????<

The U.S. Green Building Council supports SSI and anticipates adopting the SSI metrics into the LEED system when they are completed.

SSI will issue the next major report on sustainable landscape design for public comment in November 2008, with a preview available at the ASLA annual meeting and EXPO in Philadelphia, Oct. 3-7.
