The West Basin Municipal Water District of California established a water conservatory plan called LIEP, which is an acronym for "landscape irrigation efficiency program." The program provides free landscape water evaluations for residential and commercial properties alike. Also, if a site qualifies, the program will retrofit old sprinkler systems with all new, high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles for free. Every landscape evaluation contains the following aspects: a site survey, list of recommended improvements and repairs, recommendations on water budget and scheduling, survey summary report and free installation of high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles to qualified sites. Sponsors for the program include the California Water Service, California American Water, the city of El Segundo and many more. Servicing areas of the West Basin Municipal Water District include cities mainly located along the coast of Los Angeles County, such as Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Malibu and Redondo Beach.
