In a show of green responsibility, a global manufacturer of products for the green industry spent over a year measuring their social and environmental impacts, including energy, water use and waste and then issued a report that detailed the findings.
The company, Hunter Industries, offers products to the irrigation, landscape lighting, and custom molding sectors.
The report will be used to assist the management team at Hunter set goals to decrease the company's environmental footprint. One such target is as a 90% diversion rate of waste to landfill by 2017.
"We have long been aware of our impact on the irrigation industry and the landscape industry in general," says Ann Hunter-Welborn, chair of Hunter's board of directors. "Now we have an opportunity to improve the quality of our impact on the environment."
According to their corporate website, 67% of their waste was already diverted from landfills, and 25% less water was used from outside sources. And the report states that the company was successful in returning 3 acres at their corporate headquarters back to native habitat.
We intend to make the best use of all resources," says Hunter-Welborn. "This - our first report - is our baseline, providing a great deal of information on which we can immediately act."
