Landscape Design Group Matches Volunteer Designers with Community Projects

 

This pro bono landscape by designers Sarah Kish and Janice Reilly is for the Community Living Network?EUR??,,????'???s newest affordable housing in Newton, Mass., for low income elder adults. The front garden, the Fran Hintsa Memorial Garden, was named in honor of a supporter.

The Boston Globe recently reported on the Community Outreach Group for Landscape Design (COGdesign) in Waltham, Mass., a western suburb of Boston, which pairs volunteers (pro bono) landscape designers with community groups who pay an application fee and reimburse the designers’ expenses. Many of the designers are students or recent graduates from landscape programs. Their motivation is getting real-world community design experience and to add to their portfolios.
