‘’The show was an excellent idea and provided our profession a wonderful chance to mingle with each other, exchange ideas and observe new products on the market.’’
‘’Congratulations! Your Expo was a success. I enjoyed being a participant and hope I will be invited to participate at future shows.’’
?EUR??,,????'??Especially enjoyed the seminar on marketing Landscape Architecture firms.’’
“Thanks for the opportunity to exhibit at your show. I think I will do very well on the leads generated from my booth space. See you next year!”
These are just a few of the comments noted on last year’s Landscape Architectural Technical Exposition (The L.A.T.E. Show ‘87) attendee questionnaires. The L.A.T.E Show ‘89 promises to be even more successful than the last, allowing Landscape Architects, Planners, Architects, Builders, Landscape Designers and Landscape Contractors to meet with each other, attend seminars, learn about new developments in their profession and examine new products on the market. Also this year, to avoid conflict with a well-known comedian’s variety program using the “Late Show’’ moniker, The L.A.T.E. Show ‘89 has been renamed “THE LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT EXPO!”
The Landscape Development Expo is the only professional expo catering to all landscape specification professionals. Located across from the John Wayne Airport and between the 1-55, 1-405 and 1-5 freeways, The Landscape Development Expo takes place in one of the most development-oriented regions in the United States.
All Seminars, Workshops and Open Discussions are FREE to licensed or registered professionals with preregistration. According to George Schmok, President of S&F Communications, producer of the Landscape Development Expo and publisher of The Landscape Architect and Specifier News, “As with the magazine, it is our goal to bring the profession of Landscape Architecture to the forefront of the development process. We want to provide a vehicle for education and communication among the decision makers of the various disciplines. The Landscape Development Expo is a place where Landscape Architects and other landscape professionals can enhance their practice in a comfortable atmosphere without incurring the great expense usually associated with educational conferences.”
The Landscape Development Expo begins Friday morning in the exhibit hall with the Opening Session. The opening panel discussion features Donald Brinkerhoff, founding principal of Lifescapes, Inc.; Cort Paul, founding principal of the Peridian Group; Ron Izumita, founding principal of POD, Inc.; Garreff Eckbo, Landscape Architect extrodinaire; Donald Tompkins, senior principal of SWA; and Robert Cardoza, founding principal Cardoza DiLallo Harrington, discussing ‘’Landscape Architecture Into The 1990s.’’
Friday, August 25th is a “Day for Design”, with seminars to help with design decisions. The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) is presenting three special sessions: Erosion Control Planning and Design, Erosion Control Materials, and Erosion Control in Southern California. Other Friday seminar topics include Water Conservation, Irrigation Design, Plant Selection, and Lighting Design. Also on Friday is a special Developers’ Luncheon, where attendees can discuss Landscape Architecture and development from a developer’s perspective with principals from three major development firms.
A Computers/CADD workshop with hands-on demonstrations of the latest software available for IBM and Macintosh computers is open all day Friday and Saturday.
Saturday is a day for the business person. The day begins with an Open Forum: Landscape Architects and Landscape Contractors. Landscape Architects Keith Simon, 1989 President San Diego ASLA; Randy Hlubik, 1989 President SCC/ASLA and Bill Cathcart 1988 President CLASS Fund, meet with landscape contractors Klaus Ahlers, commercial landscape construction; Richard Cohen, Custom Residential; and Jack Vrtar, Landscape Maintenance, to discuss opening communications channels between the two professions. Other open seminars on Saturday include Insurance, Liability, Contract Administration, Marketing, and Generating Prom for a Design Firm.
A sold-out exhibit hall will provide exhibitors and attendees ample opportunity to display and review the latest innovations in landscape architectural products and services.
