Michael Van Valkenburgh has been named one of Fast Company magazine's Fast 50 for 2005. The Fast 50 competition is an annual reader's challenge to find ?EUR??,,????'??unsung heroes and rising stars?EUR??,,????'?? among their subscribers. Participants send in entries describing how a passion for their work results in incredible achievements. Van Valkenburgh, a landscape architect and founding principal of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc., recently finished the renovation of Pennsylvania Avenue last November. His firm was one of only four that were invited to bid on the project. In his original entry, he described the challenges of working with several public stakeholders, government agencies and clientele to turn the area in front of the White House from a ?EUR??,,????'??concrete-framed fortress?EUR??,,????'?? to a ?EUR??,,????'??welcoming destination for all Americans.?EUR??,,????'??
