Experts Discuss Climatic Changes

Palisades, NY

As part of the recent Columbia University Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory's "State-of-the-Planet" Conference, leading climate experts came together to discuss how mankind can better manage the Earth's changing climate.

"Until we have a better grasp of what it is that allowed Earth's climate system to repeatedly undergo global reorganizations, we are in a weak position with regard to predicting the consequences of the ongoing buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere," said Dr. Wallace Broecker, Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory and winner of the National Medal of Science, bestowed on him by President Clinton.

Located on a 115-acre estate in Palisades, New York the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory is a leading earth science research facility with the widest array of expertise in the Earth and environmental sciences of any academic institution in the world.

The Observatory houses a staff of more than 500 research professionals, including more than 120 scientists and nearly 100 Ph.D. students who study all of the Earth's components.
