The LAF stated that, "By investing in these deserving students, we can grow and change the field of landscape architecture and infuse it with new energy and ideas to create a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable future."

The LAF Ignite program will only be open to individuals that identify as Black/African American for the first two years, though eventually the program will open to other disadvantaged backgrounds. LAF has stated that they have designed the program to be specific with the partners they choose as mentors and internship hosts to make sure all involved parties understand the implications of the racial/ethnic groups of the participating students. Thus, focused opportunities and specific barriers can be addressed and overcome for each community individually.
