Landscape architect and adviser to London?EUR??,,????'???s royal parks, Hal Moggridge, has publishing a pamphlet warning that protected views of St. Paul’s Cathedral could be invaded by skyscrapers under rules devised by London Mayor Ken Livingstone.
The News Telegraph reports Mr. Moggridge wants greater protection to views of the city skyline from Westminster, Waterloo and Hungerford bridges and called the mayor’s undermining of the St Paul’s height code as “very destructive.” A height code of buildings has been in place since 1938 to safeguarded views of St Paul’s from the bridges. Critics say views of the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey from the bridges could also be blocked by proposed tall buildings. At present, views from the center of the bridges towards St Paul’s are protected, but the view is block if one walks 30 yards either way.
