Richard Zweifel, FASLA, an ASLA member since 1975, will be sworn in as ASLA president-elect at the 2013 ASLA Annual Meeting in Boston this fall, and sworn in as ASLA president at the 2014 meeting in Denver.

K. Richard Zweifel, FASLA, has been elected the 2014 president-elect of the American Society of Landscape Architects. A total of 3,425 votes were received from ASLA members"?u1,608 paper ballots and 1,817 electronic ballots, representing 28.6 percent of the eligible voters.

Mr. Zweifel earned his BSLA and MSLA degrees from the University of Wisconsin, and has worked in public and private practice in California and Wisconsin. He was recruited after graduate school to be one of the two founding faculty members in the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo landscape architecture department. He was a professor in the school for 14 years. For the past 25 years, he has held the position of Associate Dean for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design.

He has more than 35 years of active involvement on a variety ASLA committees and projects at the section, chapter, state and national levels. He most recently served as chair of the Council of Fellows jury and the licensure committee, and as a member of the policy committee. He was inducted into the ASLA Council of Fellows in 2000.

He is actively involved in addressing licensure and regulation issues. In 1998, Zweifel was appointed by the governor to the California Landscape Architects Technical Committee (LATC). He was elected chair in 2001, and currently serves as chair of the LATC's education subcommittee. As the only landscape architect, he was recognized in 1998 for his work on the continuing education subcommittee of the California Architects Board.

Zweifel has also served on a variety of CLARB (Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards) committees, including master grader, examination development (performance sections), reciprocity, and strategic planning. He received the CLARB Presidential Recognition Award in 2000 for his contributions.

In his candidate presentation to the ASLA Board of Trustees, he noted: "We are an evidenced-based profession. As project complexity, consequence and exposure increase, so does the importance of identifying the profession's impact by example."
