July Construction Spending Down



WASHINGTON D.C. ?EUR??,,????'??+ Construction spending in July dropped slightly, according to a report by the Commerce Department.

The report shows July?EUR??,,????'???s construction spending at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.169 trillion, 0.4 percent below the revised June estimate of 1.173 trillion. The July figure is two percent below the July 2006 estimate of $1.192 trillion. During the first seven months of this year, construction spending amounted to $657,7 billion, 3.4 percent below the $680.9 billion for the same period in 2006.

Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $880.1 billion, 0.7 percent below the revised June estimate of $886.3 billion. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $534 billion in July, 1.4 percent below the revised June estimate of $541.8 billion. Non-residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $346 billion in July, 0.4 percent above the revised June estimate of $344.5 billion.

In July, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $289 billion, 0.7 percent above the revised June estimate of $287 billion. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $83 billion, 1.9 percent above the revised June estimate of $81.5 billion. Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $74.3 billion, 0.8 percent below the revised June estimate of $74.9 billion.
