The $80 million Woodall Rodgers Deck Park project in Dallas just got a three million dollar boost from JPMorgan Chase.
The ?EUR??,,????'?????<?deck?EUR??,,????'?????<? in the park name refers to a bridge that will be constructed over the freeway, more precisely, ?EUR??,,????'?????<?concrete pre-stressed box beams set on columns constructed outside the current walls of the freeway and supported by a new center wall. There will be approximately 1,200 linear feet of freeway enclosed by the deck forming a short tunnel.?EUR??,,????'?????<?
The deck plaza construction will cost approximately $53 million. Some $77 million has been raised to date. The city of Dallas set aside $20 million in bond funds, and the Texas DOT provided another $20 million. The park was also chosen to receive $16.7 million in federal stimulus funds. A donation from the John Muse family will fund the planned performance pavilion, and money from Container Store founder Garrett Boone will pay for the dog park. The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation seeks to raise an additional $30 million to fund park amenities, operations and programming.
Construction on the park’s footings and piers is under way, but the deck has not yet been raised and completion of all elements isn’t expected until early 2012.
The landscape architect for the project is the Office of James Burnett, with offices in Houston, Texas and Solana Beach, Calif.
