The Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) and the Nevada Landscape Association (NLA) are pleased to announce that one household in Northern Nevada and one household in Southern Nevada were chosen for the Operation Green Yard Make-over Program.
Sandra Ammerman of Sparks and Janice Milton of Las Vegas will both have their yards renovated, free of charge, by volunteers from the Nevada Landscape Association and the Nevada State Contractors Board.
The program was limited to the first 100 applications received from Northern Nevada and the first 100 applications received from Southern Nevada between Aug. 1 and August 29, 2008. Households were chosen based on income and special circumstances.
The actual landscaping work began at the end of October. For the Ammermans, one of the two families selected statewide, the work included volunteers removing a rose bush and adding landscaping, irrigation and a new swing set. The total value of the work was $11,000.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?We took out overgrown roses and some rock, put turf into the back and finished it off with a new play set donated by Western Nevada Supply. Sandra Ammerman, an administrative assistant with the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, said she is indebted to the organization for their assistance. Because of their sons?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR? disability, which is characterized by impaired social interaction and problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, the Ammermans keep them in their yard during playtime.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?This yard makeover has been a blessing, just to have a safe home for our boys,?EUR??,,????'?????<? Sandra Ammerman said.
Officials said the Ammermans were an obvious first choice in the first year of the program. ?EUR??,,????'?????<?We wanted a community service project to give back to the community and we?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?re glad we could help,?EUR??,,????'?????<? said Art Nadler, a spokesperson for the state contractors board.
