Irrigation License Extended in Illinois

The IA, a leading membership organization for irrigation companies and professionals, applauds the extension of the irrigation contractor license.

The Irrigation Association applauds the decision of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, which signed a 10-year extension of the irrigation contractor license into law.

Without this extension, the law would have required irrigation contractors to become licensed plumbers in order to do any type of irrigation work in a commercial or residential landscape setting.

"This is a big win for the irrigation industry and the people of Illinois," said Chad Forcey, IA's state affairs director. "Through this license extension, irrigation professionals will be able to continue to work to ensure the public health and safety of Illinois' water supply through efficient irrigation."

The IA supported the Illinois Green Industry Association's and the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association's efforts in advocating for an extension of the irrigation contractor license. The IA assisted state trade associations with expertise, grassroots advocacy and direct lobbying.

"Partnering with the state organizations was paramount to this victory," Forcey added. "Without their leadership and willingness to partner with us on this issue, I believe we would be in a different situation today."

With the 10-year extension, the irrigation contractor license is now set to expire on Jan. 1, 2024.
