Penn. Gov. Ed Rendell

The Rasmussen Newsletter reported Aug. 3, 2006 that the last three voter surveys show Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell enjoying a double-digit lead over Republican challenger Lynn Swann in Pennsylvania's gubernatorial race. But whomever is the next governor, he will have an Invasive Species Council (ISC) to develop and implement an invasive species management plan. The council will provide guidance on prevention and control of invasive species and rapid response to new infestations, and to facilitate coordination among federal, regional, state and local efforts. The state secretary of agriculture will chair the ISC and be joined by the state secretaries of conservation and natural resources, of environmental protection, of health, of transportation, along with the executive directors of the fish and boat commission and the game commission. An additional 10 public members will be appointed by the governor to serve two-year terms. The ISC will convene at least quarterly and its members will be reimbursed for travel and related expenses. How about a landscape architect or two on the council? If you are interested in serving on this committee, the executive committee of the Pennsylvania/Delaware ASLA Chapter encourages you to contact info@landscapearchitects.org no later than August 31, 2006.
